Education period

Education period

Non-military service always begins with four weeks education period. The four weeks education period supports general citizenship skills as well as makes the rest of the non-military service execution easier. The preliminary timetable will be sent a week before the start of the education period. You will receive the final timetable at the beginning of the education period.

Teaching

The teaching is organized in a hybrid implementation, so it includes both distance and face-to-face teaching periods. It is not possible to participate in the distance lectures from abroad. Distance teaching takes place in Teams, where participants receive an invitation and separate Teams instructions before the start of the education period.

Teaching is generally held between 9:00 and 16:00, but there is also evening teaching during the education period. Teaching also includes written assignments, and some teaching units include an exam.

Education at Lapinjärvi

One week of the education period is held at Non-military Service Centre in Lapinjärvi, and there might be lessons also on the weekend. The days off covered by the weekend will be moved to another time in the period. Accommodation is in a room for 2-6 people. You can also overnight at home, but the Non-military Service Centre only reimburses the travel costs for arrival and departure, on the other days you travel at your own expense.

Travel to Lapinjärvi is by public transport. We have organised a joint transportation from Helsinki and Kouvola on the first day when you should travel to Non-military Service Centre. Also, there will be joint transportation when your education period ends at Non-military Service Centre. Travel information will be sent by email before the education period begins. You can come by car, but costs are not reimbursed.

Health safety

The Non-Military Service Centre actively monitors the health safety situation, and we always act in accordance with the current official instructions. The spread of infectious diseases is best prevented by good hand hygiene. Please arrive healthy!

Personal hygiene and moderate use of perfumes are in everyone’s interest. Make sure to bring your own hygiene products – also bring your own towel. Bed linen (sheets and pillowcases) are provided by the centre and must be used. Practical exercises are carried out in proper protection. Some of the teaching takes place outdoors, weather permitting, so be prepared with outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear.
