Non-military service always begins with a training period in the non-military education center in Lapinjärvi.

The training period lasts for 28 days, on the first day, the attendees are assigned one of four groups, which have different orientations, and schedules, the attendees can generally choose which group to join.

Common lectures among the groups include non-military training basics, non-military service history and a first aid training course.

During the training period, attendees must follow their groups schedule from 8:45 to 16:00, sometimes in the evening 17-18.30.On Fridays, the lectures end at 14:00.
